This intense study was a review and evaluation of location options and whether two or three stations were needed on the Sydney/Airport Rail link. The study involved a layering of eleven natural and man–made influences on possible station sites and selecting those site possibilities that best met the criteria for further evaluation.
Of the eleven natural and man–made influences there are just two shown here, being by way of examples, Land Use and Zoning, to give an indication of the complexity confronting the evaluation process in finding a way through for a new infrastructure initiative in an existing heavily built–up area.
The study assumed such stations would, over time, become TODs (Transport Oriented Developments) and hence economic returns for future commercial and residential around such site catchments. A two station option was eventually selected and implemented.
I commenced the study in 1993 and was responsible for the design study options and tabulations and preparation of the final report.
