GAIA – Le BAND (1992) KL Malaysia

Pem – Tenor Sax, Dr Cueneyt Guenak – Guitar, Gina Guenak – Vocals and percussion

Whilst in Malaysia and to get relief from the endless work I put together this trio.

It comprised Dr Cueneyt Guenak (PhD) in systems analysis and hospital planning on guitar and his lovely wife Gina on vocals and percussion. We were truly an international group since Cueneyt was Turkish born and Gina was from Dutch Guyana and both were citizens of Vienna when not in Malaysia.

We played mostly Latin American music at poolside parties and were very well received. When not strutting out stuff in public we rehearsed at Cueneyt’s and Gina’s pleasant apartment.

Gina was not only an incredibly talented artist in Chinese brush painting but also a great singer and bongo player. But, as frequently happens, I had to do a whole lot of transpositions to get around Gina’s preferred keys for singing. I am not complaining here, as it was ever thus.
