TOFFS (2016 -2018) Adelaide

Three masters of classical jazz for your listening pleasure.

Pem – Piano
Ron – Clarinet
Sam – Bass

Read the article Haydn Radford wrote about TOFFS: https://www.weekendnotes.com/the-artisan-cafe-blackwood/

TOFFS was a ‘pick up’ group with Ron Flack (a towering strength in the Southern Jazz Club) on clarinet and ‘Sam’ (Brian Sampson) on bass. We played regularly at The Artisan on Friday evenings and attracted quite a following.

We received much praise from the roving publicist about town, one Hadyn Radford, who recorded unobserved the attached soundtrack of the 1936 song Did I Remember. Listen to his recording:

You cannot help but be aware of the background noise since all the enclosing walls and floor surfaces were hard and reflective and so finally, after some two years residency, we gave up the gig as the acoustics just defeated us. This was sad but it occasionally happens.

Sam has sadly left us now and is remembered as a fine and sensitive bass player and great wit.
